Jelly-Roll is really good with children.

Jelly-Roll is wonderfully calm and loves a good brush, especially on his neck! He looks aloof, with an almost regal manner, but don’t let that fool you, as he’s very friendly with both adults and children. Despite being very imposing, he’s not a leader and much prefers following one of his friends. Jelly-Roll is a classic ccara llama, with long legs, and is as close to a camel as you can get really, but smaller and more beautiful!

    Django loves children too!

Django, Jelly-Roll’s half brother, looks very different to him but has the same gentle temperament. Django can spot a camera from a mile away but as soon as one points at him, he turns the other way. He too is very good with children. A tampuli llama, and really woolly, Django is our stud male and we have high hopes of him for the future!

    Lena loves the camera!

Lena, another ccara llama, is our leader and is an amazing walker. She’ll stick with whoever’s walking her, stopping and starting when they do as if she can read their mind. When she first came to us, Lena would walk to within an inch of us and we could feel her breath on the back of our necks when she stopped. She’s much more settled now though, and keeps her breath to herself! She’s a little shyer than Jelly-Roll and Django, but loves a stroke on her neck once she’s got to know you.

George in the typically Derbyshire countryside.

George looks like our baby but he’s actually the same age as Jelly-Roll. That’s because he’s part vicuna, with a llama dad and half-vicuna mum. His fleece is thick and woolly, very unlike all the others, and he has a very cute lopsided nose. He’s quite shy but certainly holds his own with the others, especially at feeding time! We never feed our llamas by hand, as they would come to expect this and we’d rather be seen as a source of cuddles and strokes than food! They do get a daily treat of specialised llama feed though, which they all look forward to.

Satchmo, another tampuli llama and half-brother to Lena, looks fabulous, with his beautiful eyes and long eyelashes. Tampuli llamas are much woollier than their ccara relatives, and tend to be shorter and stockier. Satchmo is very typical of this and is, we think, a real stunner. He is responding really well to his training and we’re hoping he’ll be out with us soon.

    Bix enjoying the Chatsworth trek.

Bix is our youngest llama, but he’s already our tallest. Now fully grown, he’s very impressive, not that he hasn't always been, with a beautiful chocolate-brown coat and distinctive flash of white on his nose. We think he looks quite horse-like, but he’s definitely all llama! Bix is really friendly and very confident on a trek, leading well and with a good pace.

    Bing made friends really quickly.

Bing is absolutely stunning, with a fabulous all-white fleece, and has a really calm temperament. Like Bix, he’s great on a trek, happily walking on a loose lead next to his human. He’s a tall ccara llama with incredibly strong legs and is frequently stopped on a trek by passers-by asking for his photo, although he doesn’t like giving autographs. Llamas speak to each other with a gentle hum, and although Bing hasn’t quite mastered the llama song yet, he can often be heard humming White Christmas!
